{"id":2015,"date":"2023-02-20T02:13:27","date_gmt":"2023-02-20T02:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/binarywords.com\/?p=2015"},"modified":"2023-02-20T02:13:27","modified_gmt":"2023-02-20T02:13:27","slug":"renunciando-a-la-culpa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/binarywords.com\/en\/2023\/02\/20\/renunciando-a-la-culpa\/","title":{"rendered":"Giving up guilt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, Facebook reminded me of a post I wrote exactly thirteen years ago, quoting a phrase that really resonated with me back then:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I am so far behind that I will never die.<\/p><cite>Bill Watterson<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Does this feeling ring a bell? The feeling of not doing everything you should be doing, of not accomplishing everything you should be accomplishing, of moving too slowly and not being able to catch up...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I can think of a number of things I could say on this topic (and I probably will say them, in future articles), but for the moment, and taking into account the time of the year, today I\u00b4m going to focus on what I discovered to be the consequence (or maybe the cause?) of me feeling this way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I felt guilty about everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hiciera lo que hiciera, me sent\u00eda culpable por no hacerlo lo suficientemente bien, o por ser poco productiva y malgastar mi tiempo. Si estaba trabajando, me sent\u00eda mal por pasar poco tiempo con mis hijas; si estaba jugando con mis hijas, me sent\u00eda mal por no estar haciendo algo \u00abm\u00e1s \u00fatil\u00bb, como limpiar o cocinar&#8230; Y as\u00ed, la lista segu\u00eda hasta el infinito, espero que se entienda la idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But luckily a few years later, I\u00b4m not sure exactly when, at some point something clicked in my head, and I realized that guilt was not delivering any productive outcomes for me, in fact it was the opposite. Ahora estamos a punto de empezar la Cuaresma, y en Irlanda es t\u00edpico elegir algo a lo que renunciar durante estos cuarenta d\u00edas; por ejemplo, hay mucha gente que renuncia a los dulces. Supongo que de ah\u00ed viene luego la costumbre de atiborrarse de chocolate por Pascua de Resurrecci\u00f3n, tendr\u00edais que ver el tama\u00f1o de los \u00abEaster eggs\u00bb \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recuerdo que al poco de mudarme a Irlanda me sorprend\u00eda cuando me preguntaban: \u00ab\u00bfy t\u00fa a qu\u00e9 vas a renunciar esta Cuaresma?\u00bb Como en Espa\u00f1a eso no es costumbre, no se me ocurr\u00eda qu\u00e9 contestar&#8230; Hasta que un a\u00f1o se me encendi\u00f3 la bombillita y apareci\u00f3 en mi cabeza la respuesta: \u00a1A la culpa! Renuncio a sentirme culpable in\u00fatilmente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What about you?
